Intro

This is Hopework #11.

If you’re reading, you will need 15 minutes to complete this assignment. Those following on video will need a few minutes less (12 minutes). This month’s assignments are focused on getting to know our inner world. #hopework #HopeworkSet11

Shout-out to the internal family systems (IFS) model for inspiring this series.

 Step-by-step

1) Find a place where you can comfortably and safely write or dictate your journal. Then read and respond below.

2) Think about this definition of clarity as it applies to your inner experiences in your mind, body, and spirit

CLARITY: the ability to perceive situations accurately without distortion from extreme beliefs and
emotions

3) Take 5 minutes and answer the following questions about your own experiences in your journal

  • How does your body feel right now?

Think of any upsetting news story from at least a week ago, perhaps the same one from Hopework #10:

  • Write or review your description of how you reacted to this news in terms of how you felt and what you thought.
  • Since you heard this news, are these still the thoughts and feelings that you feel when thinking about the news? Why or why not?
  • How well do you now understand that news story compared to when you first heard it of a scale where 1 is oops to 5 (highly accurate)?

4) Think about this definition of confidence as it applies to your inner experiences in your mind, body, and spirit

CONFIDENCE: to maintain the ability to stay fully present in a situation and effectively handle or
repair anything that happens

5) Take 8 minutes and answer the following prompts in your journal

  • Do you know what to do in the event of a severe weather emergency (for example an ice storm, tornado, or hurricane)? Why or why not?
  • Re-read your previous answer: How does it feel in your body to consider your severe weather emergency response?
  • Thinking about your first answer, what thoughts are going through your mind as you consider your severe weather emergency response?

After you finish writing, feel free to read what you wrote and add to it if you feel moved to do so.

Extra hopework: Try listening to Swaying Tree, Exploring Tastes, Belly Breathing, or Glowing Bubble Breathing once a day this week. See the Month 2 exercises if these are new to you.
