Week 1: Take 15 minutes to journal

A candle on a black background with the url Hopework dot ing and the words week 1 journaling superimposed.

Intro

Beginnings can be rough. Set aside 15 minutes to sit with yourself (or in a group) and notice a few things then write in a journal about it.

What you will write is for you. You will not be asked to share it. Any sharing you choose to do is voluntary.

I wrote a housekeeping post about this account and this project. This exercise will have you read it out loud and notice any of your thoughts, feelings, body sensations, experiences, memories, etc. that show up as you read.

Threaded version of exercise

Step-by-step

1) Set a 15 minute timer

When the timer is finished, you will stop writing and stop this exercise. Go ahead to the next step after you set your timer.

2) Read a housekeeping post and journal about your reactions to it

As you read, jot down what you notice happening in and around your body, in your thoughts and memories, in your feelings and body sensations, etc.

I created this account because my main account is for Indigenous and Black communities. *This account* is for all of us on this beautiful planet who are called to interact with me.

Here I’ll introduce/we’ll work towards hopeful futures. Follow along if that sounds good to you.

If you’re Indigenous or Black, feel free to connect on my main account as well. See my bio for link. I will be blocking non-Indigenous and non-Black followers & commenters on my main account.

Will I err sometimes? Yes.

After you’ve read, answer at least one of the questions below:

a. How do you believe this exercise relates to the idea of a Hopeful Future?

b. What part of what you noticed or what you read had the biggest impact on you?

c. Was there anything you wish I had said?

d. Was there anything you wish I had not said?

e. How does what I wrote matter to you?

f. Are you curious what the next exercise will be?

Hint: The next exercise takes place in your imagination and writing is optional.

3) The exercise ends when you’re done writing or your timer goes off

Thank you for participating ✨️ Consider saving your writing to look at in a few months.
